2017 Fall Sermon Series: Jesus’ Community in Mission
We are coming to the close of our 175th anniversary year as a church. This year we have focused our preaching primarily on the church. The word church in Greek is ekklesia, literally meaning the called out ones. In this final series of the year on the church, we will explore what we are called out for, so that we might recommit ourselves to God’s purpose for us, and that we might consciously reorient ourselves to the biblical vision of what it is to be God’s new society. This series will be primaryily exploring what Jesus ‘continued to do and teach’ (Acts 1:1) through his followers as seen in the book of Acts. It is a powerful and amazing book of the power of God in and through us to bring his Kingdom come. As a lens into the series we will begin by exploring three texts where Jesus himself sets the purpose and direction for the community that calls upon his name. Come with us as we explore what it is to be Jesus’ Community in Mission.
