Adam House – Housing Need
“For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords…He loves the foreigner residing among
you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners…”
Deuteronomy 10:17-19 NIV
Looking for a practical and compassionate way to serve others in our city?
Looking to help those who are faced with the housing scarcity in Toronto?
Wondering what God might be prompting you to do in this regard?
Adam House, a Christian charitable organisation here in the city, operates 6 houses for recently
arrived refugee claimants providing them with housing, settlement assistance and spiritual care.
Residences can stay for 3-4 months or for one year in transitional housing.
Then it’s time to move on to the next chapter, to find their own housing in an expensive city with
very limited housing availability.
- In the next four months, 5 single men and 1 single woman need to find housing.
- Between January and March, 13 singles and a family with a baby and a toddler will be looking
for a new home. - From April to June, 12 singles and 3 couples need a place to live.
That’s 34 places and 40 people.
What could you offer? - An available bedroom in your home
- A downstairs bedroom, a sitting area and shared or private bathroom
- An unused upper floor of your house
- A space to which you add a mini kitchen (bar fridge, microwave, hotplate, water, some
cupboards) - Another creative option that works for you
These soon-to-be-former residents would be expected to pay rent (a figure you determine), and
come as recommended individuals. As you think about this possibility to help someone trying to start a new life in Canada, please feel free to contact Bonnie Moore, who works with residents at Adam House
or 416 312 8834. You can also contact Adam House directly
