Lent Resource Compilation
We’ve compiled a list of books, podcasts, playlist recommendations, reading plans, and Lent guides that are free or inexpensive. Browse through these to see if any inspires you as you observe Lent with your family!
Book Recommendations
Eighth Day Prayers: Daily Mercy for Lent and Eastertide. Best for families with older kids, this book has daily meditations and prayers that are short and easy to do at mealtime or bedtime.
Little Shoots, Deep Roots has an inexpensive, downloadable and printable 40 Days with Jesus Lent experience for families that will take you through the book of Mark in 40 days. There are elements to each day’s devotion that will appeal to younger kids and to teens and their parents.
Ed Drew has written The Wonder of Easter, a discussion-based devotional that includes Scripture readings, some easy activities, and differentiated questions for 3-4s, 5-7s, 7-12s, teens and adults. There are five provided for each week, and they take just ten minutes a day. You can download some sample studies here or order the book itself.
Podcasts
The We Wonder podcast is a great resource for families to listen and contemplate together. Although it’s no longer updated, there are several Lent series in their archives (from 2020, 2021, and 2022). Designed for families to listen to together, each Lent episode is between 8 to 10 minutes long and encourages us to reflect on Scripture and ask “I wonder…” questions.
Albums and Playlists
Practicing Lent from the Anglican Diocese of Canada (see reading plan below) has an accompanying Spotify playlist that you can listen to here.
Rain for Roots’s album “The Kingdom of Heaven is Like This” has great songs for kids and adults alike that are worth contemplating during Lent.
The Verses Project, which aims to help people memorize, meditate on, and motivate an ongoing practice of reading God’s Word, has a Lent playlist (Spotify) that may appeal to older kids and parents.
Reading Plans
One Christian curriculum company has put together a simple and free family prayer guide for the 40 days of Lent (this is the 2026 version).
Practicing Lent from the Anglican Diocese of Canada. This lovely, full resource for families has a booklet, calendar, colouring pages, and a playlist to accompany the daily readings. You can even print your own stickers to track your progress!
Lent Guides
Little Way Chapel has reasonably priced family Lent and Easter guides as digital downloads to make them easy to use at home.
The Liturgical Home website has thoughtful content for those who are investigating more about the meaning of and practices in Lent.
