So What’s Going On?

As we enter the second quarter of 2023, I (Karen) wanted to share what has been happening so far in
my role as the “Justice Animator” at Little T, and where we are headed. As Justice Animator, my role this
year is to help facilitate a discernment process in partnership with Yonge Street Mission (YSM), to discern where God might be calling Little Trinity to focus in the areas of justice and mercy.

Tentative Timeline for 2023

JAN – FEB for me were spent beginning to get to know the Little T church community, and doing a deep
dive into the history of the church and the neighbourhood, as well as preaching and presiding in Sunday
worship.

MAR – APR has been and will continue to involve meetings with Yonge Street Mission and the Justice
Working Group (JWG). Together we are developing a working plan for the year and receiving training
from YSM in asset mapping (discovering the gifts and assets of both the church and the neighbourhood)
and community engagement.

In MAY YSM will expand that training to the congregation, holding workshops the afternoons of May 7
and May 14 on how to meaningfully engage with our neighbourhood. Please mark these in your
calendar and plan to attend one or both!

Through JUNE – AUG we will invite the congregation to put into practice some of the training from the
spring, as together we gather data about our surroundings and our church to see where the
opportunities and challenges lie.

In SEPT & OCT, YSM will collate and analyse the data we have spent the summer gathering and present
possible options for going forward. YSM will also join us on our parish retreat Sept 30 – Oct 1 to help
deepen our theological understanding of poverty and God’s call to love our neighbours as ourselves.

OCT – DEC will be spent refining a vision of what we want to do in the areas of justice as a church going
forward, setting specific goals, and establishing an evaluation process so that we can hit the ground
running in 2024.

If you have questions, concerns, or comments about any of this, please reach out to me at
! I’d love to hear your thoughts.
